I’ve dealt with addiction for a long time and I’ve been clean for months now. I’ve been trying to find an opportunity to give back to the people from where I came from and SUMS place is where I get to do that. I watched my friends go in and out of jail just to end up dying from the drugs they were doing. It was starting to take a toll on me and in one day I lost 9 friends. That was my wake-up call.
I hope to become a drug addiction counselor. While in custody I did schooling in plumbing, catering, psychology, became a red seal chef, and got accepted into a college to take youth psychology. I figure that I have all this experience and it could be used to help other people.
Some people think that people struggling with addictions are all bad people that don’t deserve to have a chance. But there are a lot of good people that are out there that deserve a chance but just don’t know how to get it.
